I assume you've noticed that the substance of my advice is almost always to push back from the desk and go out and hike. My teaching is that, in the end, every hiker must teach herself. Just start hiking and pretty soon you'll be an "expert" (or at least be able to post like one) too. ;-)

I don't think I've asked Marta for advice first hand, but I have read much of what she has told others, and of course her trail journals from start to finish. I'm sure she has no idea how much of an influence, not to mention what a great resource, she and her journals have been to myself and my daughter (who is currently finishing up her JMT hike). Much of my daughters hike was planned based on Marta's experience. What we learned from her was invaluable, to say the least. Thanks Marta. You do rock!
