Actual time on trail averages (or at least did during my thru) about 8.5 - 9 hours. Generally hike longer in Summer to take advantage of longer daylight. Found that stopping for dinner and then hiking on for another hour or so worked well. If my pace was faster and I could cover more mileage my preference would be to knock off sooner in the day ...but then I'd never get anywhere.

no more than 8 hours
I like to keep it down to eight hours, too. More than that and I tend to have an exercise hangover the next day.

7-8 hours for me
10-12 hours. More in summer. Less other seasons.
8 to 10 hours (summer), typically, with frequent short stops and maybe 1/2 hour for lunch.
Depends... at least 8 hours, but I prefer to hike 12-14 hours each day.
Varies with time of year. I usually get started about an hour and a half after daylight and like to stop about an hour before sunset. I'll vary my stop by as much as an hour either way depending on terrain, weather, and available campsites. I guess this works out to 9 - 11 hours, depending on time of year.
Whenever possible, I like to be on the Trail by seven, and to be done hiking by five, and often, much sooner. Leaving early in the day gives me time to get my miles in, leaves plenty of time for breaks, and insures that I can stop early enough to enjoy the place I've travelled to, and aren't totally exhausted by the time I get there.
Depends on how much wine I am carrying....

Do I count the nap that I take after lunch?
I think it's fair to do it if you are in fact napping on the trail. I see a lot of hikers nap right in the middle of e grassy parking lot near the AT train stop. Often one of them has been given the gopher duty of making the Deli Run while the rest get a good power nap.
Like LW,8 hours at the most. Usually 6-7
Sometimes 4,6,8,10,12 or more.
Depends on the day and how i feel, if i'm hiking with someone else, if i want to stop early and enjoy a nice view, etc.
Nothing is set in stone.
I hiked zeros and neros and once 30 hours in a row cause of da-beers and burgers in that near town.
however long it takes, sometimes 8, sometimes 11
There are so many miles and so many mountains between here and there that it is hardly worth thinking about
Ten's a nice round number, especially in late summer.
