Field Jacket Liner Modification

How would a jacket like this hold up in the rain?
Also ideally how small could you squeeze it down to so you could keep it in your bag?

Awsome project, I'm in the AF and have like 5 of these liners, I use them all the time for winter hiking up in Arkansas. I need to learn to sew.

I used a field jacket liner as my middle, puffy layer this past May for a section hike of NJ with lows in the mid to uppper 30's. The jacket liner compressed very well and when worn over my long sleeved t-shirt and under a Dri-Ducks rain jacket kept me warm in a 40F bag while hanging in a hammock. I unzipped the rain jacket in the middle of the night as I was getting too warm and sweating.

In addition to the M-65 field jacket liner, there are also U.S. military Cold Weather Coat Liners, which don't require sewing the arm pits as they are fully connected. The coat liners also have front buttons and button holes.
