Default 2010 Thru-hiker chick wants to meet folks NOW

I’m a 30-yr-old female living in NJ, planning a 2010 thru-hike. Of course I’d rather go with a friend, but at this point in life none of my chums can swing it. I’d like to befriend some folks before hitting the trail in 17 months so that not everyone at Springer is a stranger. If you’re in the same boat, please get in touch. And if you live close, perhaps we can arrange some weekend hikes.

Try to attend some hiker get-togethers:

That'll help in meeting other hikers, including future thru-hikers.

Strangers at Springer and beyond become friends very fast when you all have the same goal in mind. Many start alone and quickly get a buddy to hike with. You'll meet friends. Hang in there!

You'll probably only see me coming the other way. I'm hoping to head Southbound, as it'll give me a few more months to save up beforehand.

Was planning to say this, then saw the Blissful already had.

You will consider any other hikers on Springer your friend right off the bat, just by your shared interest and goals. After the first night in camp, you will have some true friends, and by the end of the first few nights, you will probably be part of a group of friends that you can count on.

You will be amazed how fast and deep the friendships develop, unless, of course, you make an effort to avoid them.

I am a 33 year old female and will be starting my thru hike NOBO in 2010, what dates do you have in mind? I am leaving out abit early with my dog, I don't want to be at the gates with 1000 others, some with dogs, some who thinks they have no business on the trail.

I'm not locked on to a date yet. I thinking maybe a week after the 14th of Feb. The 14th is my daughters birthday. I'm hoping I get to see her on her birthday........ I'd like to start before the large crowd too. lol

I'm giving serious thought to a NOBO thru-hike in '10, just have to raise the funds. I did a flip-flop in 07, but I want the social experience of going north with the crowd. And I miss the trail so much it is making me ill.

I am looking to hit the trail sometime in the spring of 2010. Looks like I am going at it alone, so I am looking for someone to meet. (I know I will meet people, but knowing someone first would be nice). I am looking to go in march or so.
