Last/first shelter in the "100 mile wilderness". One of the older lean-tos, built in 1969. Baseball bat floor, boulder fire ring in front. Good tenting all around. New "upstairs" style privy. Lots of logging activity near-by, noise of machinery bothersome. Hurd Brook is a dangerous Springtime crossing, but just a wide rock-hop when things dry out. The register is often full of quite evocative entries. Upstream is an active beaver pond, often visited by moose. In Fall area heavily hunted for deer, moose, and bear.
