Does anyone along the trail in VA, at the heights, currently have snow cover, or expecting next week?
Looking to go somewhere around Christmas for a few days.

none here in the mt. rogers area
Its been extra rainy for winter the last few days. But at the moment, the winds are a-blowin' and the temps are a-chillin to near 0 on Holston. Weather dudes are calling for more than 50% chance of a White Christmas, but they have been many times before.

I'd encourage you to head out if there is less than 4"-5" of snow on the ground. It won't be as slippery as you think (unless you're standing on smooth rocks that are always slippery when wet) and the snow provides a different experience. Just dress warmly, in layers; consider adding that balaclava and mittens; wear gaiters if there's more than a few inches in the drifting areas; and opt for your leather boots over the ventilated trail runners (others will disagree on this).

There is none out here by the Southern end of the GWNP. Blusterly cold and high winds last night however today it is about 40 and calm....Head on out-you'll love it.
No snow here, but it was -3 this morning.
none here in roanoke
I just hiked the 27 miles south of Harpers Ferry. Two nights ago there was a little snow, sleet, and rain. Yesterday it was falling out of the trees as it was melting. Today was really cold 5 degrees, but the snow had all but melted. There is a little bit of ice out there though, so be careful. If you are planning a trip please let me know if you need a partner/shuttle. Thanks.

No snow here expected. Best bet is West Virginia, they get lake effect snows.
I'm in Waynesboro, Central VA, and there is no snow on the ground. The forecast for the rest of the week to Sunday is cold to cool and rain, Maybe some ice Tuesday night. This weekend will be in the 40's
Last night, Holston Mountain was at 0 with a windchill of -17.
Strangely enough, it was like 5 around noon today, but now its up to 16. I always love when highs and lows are switched.

Looks like we might get some real snow this year though, if this cold weather keeps up, and we keep getting rain they have to hit together sometime...
im praying right along with you for some snow here in va. it be great to time the precipitation right along with a nice PATC cabin trip to Mutton Top, Pocosin, or John's Rest Cabins.
Yes to northern slopes along VA 16 in Mt. Rogers Headquarters area and probably all along the trail on the northern slopes at the higher elevations. That was Christmas Day. By today, probably nada. Are we wanting snow?--Kinnickinic
