    I know of a few hikers who went into DC from Waynesboro...then you could dirty dog it up to Wilmington. My understanding was that the Waynesboro-DC bus was cheap. Like, to the order of $12 each way.

    Step 1: Wilmington to Newark DE - SEPTA train $3.00 in advance / $4.00 on board
    Step 2: Newark to Wash DC - Amtrak $36.00
    Step 3: DC to Charlottevilles VA - Greyhound $28-33

    If you're going to do the train thing, skip SEPTA and take Amtrak directly from Wilmington to DC. It can't be that much more expensive, and there are only 1-2 trains a day from Newark, as opposed to 20 or 30 from Wilmington (not to mention, there aren't that many SEPTA trains from Wilmington to Newark either).

    dperry has a point

    there are 4 septa trains each, morning and evening (rush hour) NO trains on the weekend.
