Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail question

Buddy & I are going to cycle the "Big O" over a weekend in February, camping overnight.

We will start someplace on the north end, camping someplace on the south end.

Can anyone suggest which campsites are best? Which are worst?

I can't find any sort of guide to the campgrounds....

I am sure there are several on here that have done the Big O hike and know of the best ones. Not me. I have never done that hike. I personally like the woods to hike in. It would be interesting for a day hike though.

I've hiked around the lake 3 times.
Best campsites: Liberty Point, Indian Prairie, Nubbin Slough

Worst: Finding somewhere on the south side of the lake. There are no designated campsites, so it's best to go to a commercial one. South Bay RV Park (which charges cut rate for hikers, might do for bicyclists, tell them you are doing the Big O) or Everglades Adventures in Pahokee.

Also, be advised that a couple of sections ont he SE side are closed for repairs....

That's true. Between Sand Cut and Port Mayaca can be a problem (walk around on US 441) as well as a segment between Torrey Island and Pahokee. They're rebuilding parts of the dike. When I hike it during the Big O, the Corps lets us through the construction zones so I tend to forget it is closed the rest of the time. From that standpoint, ALL thru-hikers should use the west side of the lake.
