Is this advisable on cold dry days? If so what are some good ones?

I use the brand called chili peppers they are not fleece but they do keep me warm.
I've got some north face fleece pants. Wear 'em under your non-cotton hiking pants and they should keep you warm
I have a pair of patagonia fleece..they are thick and o so warm..they are great for in camp..but the down side is they take up ALOT of room..have never hiked in them though
expedition weight base layer is about the same as fleece without pockets ,etc less bulk and weight. Price vs fleece varies
When it's cold, i like to wear my wind block full zip fleece pants that i got years ago.
I've hiked a lot of miles in these babies but don't know where you can get them.
I got a deal on them years ago and they were made by a small company called "open air"
I've never seen them for sale anywhere else.
Don't let your fears stand in the way of your dreams
now it would be called soft shell pants, nice but $$
Fleece pants with an outer shell, preferably a light wind shell. Fleece alone isn't as warm in windy and/or wet conditions.
The campmor polartec 100 are inexpensive.

I would think something more breathable than fleece would be better for hiking such as capilene under some non-cotton pants.
In camp though, fleece all the way. I have some Sierra Designs fleece pants that I swear by.

You need God—to hope, to care, to love, to live.
I like 'em in the winter. Especially the zip off kind. Outside winter, forget it.

Fleece along would also pick up all kinds of seeds - I would hate to have to pick them all off after a hike!
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool.
that should read "fleece alone". It would work well if you wore a nylon shell over the top of it.

I only wear them in camp.

Uhh I thought they were only for women, why are the guys weighing in?
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
Woo
Wear convertible pants hiking. Save the fleece for camp.
Fleece pants are too warm to hike in for me. I use regular polyester (Duofold) or wool (any brand) tights under nylon hiking pants. If the temperature never gets above freezing and the climbing is not too tough, this will work for me. If it's warmer than freezing I don't use long underwear, either. Fleece is good for camp wear except that it's heavy. Again, long underwear (a clean pair) worn in your sleeping bag, will keep you warm and your bag clean.
Fleece jackets are more useful. The legs rarely get cold because they are doing the most work.
As I live, declares the Lord God, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn back from his way and live. Ezekiel 33:11
