Default Anyone hiking the south in the fall?

I'm kicking around about 5 different ideas for my time-limited hike this year but am most keen to hike from Springer to Erwin starting around 22 September, just wondering if anyone else is going to be out there that time of year? It will be nice to hike the south without the crowds, but some folks around might be nice.

I'm looking to cover either Erwin to Davenport Gap, or Standing Indian to Newfound Gap, probably in October and assuming that knee surgery goes well (torn meniscus).

Possibly doing Springer to Neels over Labor Day weekend. In the middle of a house purchase right now so everything is in the air.

If you can cover those 300+ miles in 11 days, you're a better hiker than me. Good Luck!

Early fall is a terrific time to be on the trail. You'll find some hikers out there, but it won't be crowded. Enjoy it.

I'm thinking of doing hogpen gap (about half day north of Neel's gap) to Fontana starting the last week of September. Sounds like I may see some of you going either direction.
