Great thread if I do say so myself (I just did)
Great thread if I do say so myself (I just did)
Any new updates on vids?! It's been a couple years now, some one has got to know of some awesome links to add!!
Just watched Flip Flop Flippin' and it was pretty good!
I just watched Walk North. It was an interesting documentary of a few buddies doing a thru of the AT. The sound was a little off, and it was clearly amateur but they really get into how they are feeling and it follows just these three people. Unlike most documentaries where it's just sporadic interviews of people at different points of the trail you get to see each step.
AT Doc on Vt PBS
Road Less Traveled
Appalachian Trail produced by Nat Geo channel free on Netflix
I mad that these movies don't have instant downloads available instead of having to order physical copies. I want immediate satisfaction and I can't have it
Smile, Smile, Smile.... Mile after Mile
Came across a few more PBS films-
http://video.pbs.org/video/2365116001/ -WALKING OFF THE WAR- WINDOWS TO THE WILD WITH WARRIOR HIKE
http://video.unctv.org/video/2219735800/- SHORT VIDEO ON A BLIND HIKER- "TRAIL OF TRUST"
http://video.pbs.org/video/1639674633/ WINDOWS TO THE WILD- CLIMBING KATAHDIN
http://video.pbs.org/video/2204507434/- SECOND SEGMENT- INTERVIEW WITH LINT (LD HIKER)
http://video.pbs.org/video/2330555318/- FIRST SEGMENT- THREE WOMEN BACKPACKING THE OLYMPIC PENINSULA
http://video.pbs.org/video/2365172612/ - HIKING IN THE DARK-WINDOWS TO THE WILD- BLIND HIKER RANDY PIERCE
also facing the same frustrations of non-instant-gratification on these full doc movies, i WAS able to watch the road less traveled on the PBS link and loved it!
I don't really put my video, "Really Livin", out there for free.
But I do have parts of it on shorter youtube videos.
Here are some of them to whet your appetite:

Here is another 3 min (fun) clip that I made when playing around with some of my files:

And I do put my entire Nepal video on there. (the first half is more about getting ready to do the hike, with permits, shots, etc. The 2nd half is of the most scenic Himalaya): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W75etSBkrng
Enjoy!
ps. working on one now from my most recent Australia trip.

Wow, Fiddlehead thanks so much for posting those, just finished watching your Nepal trek and summit of Dhampus with great views of the notable 8000 metes peaks Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. Of particular note I enjoyed the market place with it's colorful spice trade, the fella playing a three string bow draw instrument, 2 dollar rooms, making tea and bread, and just the overall beauty and comradere you all seemd to have....oh and the sound tracks were awesome, (think that's you playing in some of them, is it not? the CDT video) Thanks again for posting, it was really enjoyable to watch, and beautifully produced.
oh yeah...and the burning of the schedule kinda think that's the whole point. again, Awesome!
Great thread! Loving all these videos.
Yeah, schedules are necessary for planning but shouldn't be adhered to too closely IMO.
So burn them when you start the walk is my theory.
So, yeah, I just finished editing a fun video of our Aussie trip (kid stuff) and remembered how much fun editing video can be and how creative you can get.
Slow motion is a fun tool.
I just wish I had shot more video to work with.
No hiking in this one, so I won't link it.
I probably have some more hiking stuff out there.
There's our Pyrenees hike, but it's mostly slides, we didn't have a video camera back in the '90s.
Now, everyone has one, aye

Oh, and here's another one from the Triple Crown One Year video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKs_u-7Pzx4
By the way, when you see the Triple Crown videos of mine, I always tried to put the 2 letter abbreviation for each state in the bottom corner of each scene, so you know where that scene came from.
The AT clips are the minority though. Hard to compete with PCT and CDT for scenery shots.

A piece of advice, unless you are into childish drama stay away from "Beauty Beneath the Dirt".
