Earlier this year 16 volunteers put in a total of 425 hours to scan 12,779 Polaroids of hikers taken since 1979 at the ATC. With funding from the Quimby Family Foundation, the A.T. Museum Society is working with the ATC to develop a social networking website featuring the photos. Because of privacy issues, photos will initially be cropped to display only the images (without hiker names or any annotations written on the photos), until they are claimed (either through a form that will be on the website or available through the ATMS's website). Hikers who wish to claim their photos prior to the website's launch may do so by downloading the photo release at http://www.atmuseum.org/news.htm (page down to the section under Photo Release and click on the link). Hikers who claim their images now will receive notification of the launch date and access to their Polaroids (complete and uncropped) prior to the launch.
