    Default Is it true about NH ?

    The locals claim they have no snakes in their state... true?

    Not true...I saw more garter snakes in one day between Glencliff and Cube Mtn than I've seen in my whole life, about 5 or them.

    They don't have any poisonous snakes, but they do have plenty of snakes!

    The ADKS are suppose to be free of poisonous snakes as well. Sue/HH

    Sorry, but there are rattlesnakes in the Adks near Lake George at Shelving Rock and on Black Mountain. I can't personally comfirm that but I did read about it in "An Adirondack Sampler II put out by the Adk Mountain Club. Dave

    Default 10 species

    According to DeGraaf's New England Wildlife, there are 10 species of snakes that occur in New Hampshire, none venomous. Of these, 8 may be found along the corridor traversed by the AT.

    My best snake encounter on the NH AT was just a few weeks ago - a large, colorful Eastern Milk Snake on the ledges of Webster Cliff.

    Saw a 4-foot rattler on the trail in Sharon, CT this past wknd.. sure surprised me to see a poisonous snake that big in Connecticut.
