Default Looking for Hiking article topics

Hi all! Some of you know me. I have just been hired/selected as the Atlanta Backpacking Examiner for Examiner.com. Many of my articles are going to focus on getting new people out on the trail, but I would also like to include more focused topics as well. I am taking suggestions on my webpage, and I will take them here as well. If there is something you would like me to write on, or research for you I will be more than happy to do so. I will post 2-3 articles a week, so go ahead and check it out. I will be honest and say I do get paid for this, but only $10 for every 1,000 hits, so it's not like it's every going to be a real money maker, but it could be fun to get some interaction from the backpacking community as well. I put this in straightforward because I only want serious suggestions. I already have an extensive list of topics, but am definitely interested in ideas from you all.

Congrats, Almost There. I just read them and you seem to be off to a good start. Are you wanting to stick with local topics and general gear, etc? You could do an article on the GATC, Many Sleeps, even the BMT. All of these have local flavor.

Thanks guys! Great ideas. Mowgli, I'm trying to stay away from dayhike stuff, because there is actually a hiking writer who focuses on that stuff, but the fall foliage hike could be a great overnight article for families.

Maybe something on how to make a hike enjoyable for inexperienced hikers you may be taking with you. It seems like I run into a lot of people, usually father/son or boyfriend/girlfriend combos where one of them is not having much fun.

Last spring I ran into two guys in their forties and one of their fourteen year old sons. It had been 40* and raining the night before and they were wearing cotton and complaining about how they couldn't get a fire started the night before, so they had to eat a cold dinner because they didn't bring a stove to cook on. One guy seemed interested in telling me all about it while the other guy and the 14 year old kept walking the last 1/4 mile to their car. They looked absolutely miserable.

I've also made this mistake myself. I thought my girlfriend was going to kill me because on the first day of our hike I made her hike too many miles. That night we sat down and readjusted our plans and it made all the difference in the world. Not only did she not kill me, but we had an amazing time.

OSUBCS#1, Great idea, I am actually planning an article on taking the family for a fun fall overnight, but hiking with a significant other is a great idea. I've been there myself making my wife hike too many miles...the ride home was not fun!

Clarification: I typoed the date of Meredith's dissappearance. I apologize for this, and have corrected it in the article.
