    Default Tahoe Rim Trail info

Based on the amount of questions I've been getting into my in-box, seems like there is interest in TRT.

So I finally got ON my ass and put together some TRT info, my journal, photos on my site, etc.

    The main TRT page:
    http://www.pmags.com/joomla/index.ph...rim-trail.html

    TRT Journal:
    http://www.pmags.com/joomla/index.ph...l.html#journal

    Logistics and planning info:
    http://www.pmags.com/joomla/index.ph....html#planning

(CAVEAT: I have not been to Kings Beach or Incline Village personally. All info was done via the Intertubes. Feedback welcome)

    TRT Impressions:

TRT Youtube slideshow: (quick and dirty. My name is Mags..not Squatch. )

    TRT Photos on my website:
    http://www.pmags.com/joomla/index.ph...2_itemId=20446

(PHOTOS: As mentioned, my camera card acted flakey on the last day. I stole some photos via Creative Commons for the appropriate views. The last photo is NOT from the TRT..but gives the appropriate and mandatory dramatic finish photo. )

Questions? Comments? Snarky remarks about anything? E-mail me!

(Snarky remarks will get the appropriate Northeast attitude in reply. )

Hey Mags, a really good hiking buddy of mine just was on this trail last week.
He also loved it and said it really had so many more views of the lake that the PCT skips.
He did say there were 2 fairly long waterless stretches though. 16 and 18 miles i think he said. Not so bad really but must be planned out of course.

I was supposed to go out there and hike it with him but decided i needed to stay here instead. Now, i'm slightly bummed although being here is pretty good also.

Sounds about right. For an experienced Western and/or ld hiker, not a huge deal. But, I can see people new to ld hiking/Western hiking being a little hesitant at first. Not too bad with careful planning, though. Also, when your friend and I hiked, water is much more plentiful due to snow melt. A larger storm hit that area in April or May IIRC.

Here's what I wrote on that issue:

    WATER

Parts of the trail are dry, esp the northern half between Kingsbury North and Tahoe City.

The stretches with 10 miles or more without water are as follows

Kingsbury North to Spooner Summit - 12.2 miles (plus a .6 (point six) r/t hike to and from Spooner Lake)
Spooner Summit to Ophir Creek (about 1 mile before Tahoe Meadows) - approx 22 miles
Third Creek to Watson Lake - about 20 miles
-All depends on the time of the year. Early summer with the snow melt, no problem. Seasonal streams are running and water is ample. In the Fall? Not so much. Mud Lake just off the trail may not be reliable source of water later in the hiking season. A hiker can break up this stretch by hiking 1 mile r/t to Gray Lake just north of the TRT. It is about half-way in this section. The lake is supposed to make for some nice camping. Consult your map and/or guidebook for details.
Watson Lake to Tahoe City - 12.5 miles
