I walked up the Andy Lane trail which goes to the AT north of Tinker Cliffs which is just north of McAfee Knob. I walked up on a large downed tree with a cut-out notch to pass through. The copperhead snake was getting sun on the tree, and I am confident that is where it lives. Be careful.

The copperhead in the opening post is well camouflaged. Hikers need to pay attention to where they put their feet and hands!

Thats one large Copperhead . Generally they max out at 3 feet or a just tad longer. Seen a few ( 1 reeaally close)

but none quite this robust .

there is also a den of copperheads on the 1st lookout coming out of swatara gap in PA. 4 copperheads have been there since the middle of june, and still were there last week

Nice snake. They get BIG. I once saw one on the trail in MD that was even bigger.
