We seem to have an epidemic of advertizing/spam messages. I'm dutifully reporting them as I find them. May I ask how this is handled by the moderators? Just curious.

I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.

Non-backpacking spam is zapped as soon as it is seen, with the offender permanently banned and all posts deleted from that account.
If the post references a new piece of gear or a new service we tend to let it ride a time or two. This benefits the membership with exposure to new products and services and helps some of the cottage industry people get the word out.
If the posts become repetitive or excessive we usually let the person know they can purchase a spot on the banner and/or place a link in the Links section.

By the title, I thought this was going to be a cooking thread.

If people spent less time being offended and more time actually living, we'd all be a whole lot happier!
To my mind, there is a huge difference between someone who is a member, then creates a hiking related item that they mention here, and someone who has a computer generated account that autoposts spam for who knows what product. The first is an offer for a genuine service. The second is clearly spam.
When someone's first post is for their product, even if it is hiking related, that strikes me as a weak attempt at free advertising, even if it doesn't necessarily count as spam.

Well she is! about your age.
Everyone knows you fry Spam and drink the juice. If you stab it, and eat it cold, you get a messy chin.
Wait a minute! Aren't we always looking for a deal on a wedding dress to hike in?
