    Default 11/14-11/17 smokies

this hike will start at NFG and end at big creek ranger station. using a shuttle. going along A T for a couple miles then turning off to connect with BMT on hughes ridge. and following BMT to big creek . tent sites are lower elv. and laurel gap has a shelter so it won't be too bad if it's cold. hopefully.

Sounds interesting. I know I could look it up, but what is the mileage?

Oh BTW the Leonids are expected to peak the night of the 17th, so we may have a great light show!

    Default nov hike

Hi, i am new to this site but interested in a long weekend hike around that time and am a pretty experienced and good hiker, having lived and worked in and around Yellowstone Natl park for many years. I live in Mo and know practically nothing about the AT, but i might be able to meet for this hike if you are still looking for hiking partners. thanks for any and all info, i am looking forward to my first hike.

I'm going to connect to this thread, as I'm considering Thanksgiving stuff right now... Parents recently moved to Charlotte, and Geee Willikers! I have to cross Davenport Gap to get there... Hmmmm.

GSMNP is the only gap I have between Springer and Cheshire, MA. I would love to knock this section out sometime where I can find someone to maybe swap cars with. I hike primarily SOBO so if someone is interested in meeting me wherever they can take my car to Fontana Dam and I'll take their vehicle to Standing Bear and we can hike our own hikes. This is going to be a lot harder to pull off with the I-40 closure.

Right now Wed the 11th is a holiday for me and I can also have Friday the 13th as a day off so I can hike thru the park and only take one vacation day. If anyone can start on the 11th let me know.
Pain is a by-product of a good time.

Gollwoods, is this still a go? I might be interested. Since I live in the area, we might be able to skip the shuttle part as well.

Yes it's still a go. I don't think I can finish at big creek early enough to allow time to run you back up to NFG. and drive home then with work on wednesday. I planned on being on road by 2:P M
if I have to go up to NFG it'll add 2 hrs to my drive

It looks like I'll be doing a little longer hike next weekend with Spicoli From Unicoi Gap, GA to Franklin, NC for 4-5 days from 11-6 to 11-9/10.
