Default Sort of off-topic but this is the "food" section....

So I'm stuck at work right now and we have a country station on, and there's a song by this North Carlolina guy talking about the things he likes the most.

One of them is "mustard on my fries."

    So, quick question.

Up here, it's pretty much ketchup. When I lived in Europe, in some places it was mayonnaise . In Maryland, at the right diner, they'll give you gravy, which is actually pretty good.

But this "mustard on my fries" thing is new to me.

So tell us, where do you live, and what goes on the fries?

I usually stick with ketchup, sometimes melted cheese and gravy is great (not at the same time). Sometimes I'll stop by McDonalds and get their spicy mustard for the chicken nuggets and dip fries in it. It's pretty good.

Canada disagrees about the same time part.

Being from New England, I still crave malt vinegar with my fries once in a while...

Been known to mince garlic and add a little lemon juice to mayonnaise for sweet potato fries. Sprinkle coarse salt, fresh ground pepper and a little basil on the fries, too.

Nice work, Mags!! I think that's that "poutine" thing I've heard about, with gravy and cheese curds. Sounds and looks kinda cat vomitty, but I'm told it's fairly tasty. Anyway, nice photo, that's what this thread is all about.

It's called poutine. A specialty of Quebec actually. It is fried cheese curds..but close enough. A gut bomb and absolutely wonderful.

Reminds me of the movie "Slingblade", where Billy Bob Thornton's character liked "them french fried potaters, with mustard, hmm hmm."

My wife's from Minnesota and her family puts mustard on them. Mustard contains vinegar and most chip shops around the world serve vinegar, so it must be related.

I stick with ketchup. In places like Friendly's it's the closest thing to vegetables on the menu.

Of course, when I have a med rare SILO burger (1/2 lb beef with pork and bacon, topped with pepperjack and hot sauce), the drippings go over the sweet potato fries quite nicely.

I hiked today..but not enough to warrant the above. I am having the healthy, but not inspiring, crap.... sigh.

You haven't really lived until you've had poutine! Fries, buried in gravy and cheese and more gravy. mmmmmm.

Manchester, NH has a French Canadian restaurant that serves it.

I live in North Carolina, and I don't know anyone who puts mustard on fries. Ketchup, yes. Gravy? Yes. Cheese? Yup. No mustard.
