    Default Comfort Food

What foods do you eat while hiking(not in towns) that you eat/crave when off the trail? Healthy or Junk

    1. Peanut butter is a crossover food for me.
    2. Bean buritos are a common lunch hiking but at home there are more ingredients to improve them so these might not count
    3. Cookies

For my kids it would be Mac n cheese

Tuna, which works out as I can now carry that on the trail.
    Coke (the cola).
Double Decker ham & roast beef sandwich. BIG time comfort food for me!
And ONLY when I am super active (LD hiking or bicycling): Oysters &/or Escargot. Don't know why, , but they make me feel better.

I like to make a big tuna burrito for lunch. A large flour tortilla, a packet of sweet-n-spicy tuna, a couple of slices of american cheese, and 2-3 mayo packets. One of my favorite trail lunches, and it's nice to have off-trail just to bring back some memories. Can't eat it too often, of course -- it's not exactly health food.

    1. Bacon (fresh- I freeze it, and it can last a while before I cook it)
    2. Apples
    3. Cold water, sometimes mixed with instant green or flavored tea.
    4. Fresh sandwiches with lettuce and tomato. (Those ingerdients don't last too long)

And I always crave chocolate milkshakes on trail, but that would be a little difficult to pack.

Cheesy tuna pasta - I cook it differently at home than on trail.

    Coffee with breakfast - always.

And of course, hot chocolate. Maybe not considered a food, but definitely crave it on and off trail.
And fresh biscuits. With honey. I make a darn good trail biscuit.

Sometimes the things you consume all the time do not stand out.
As ShelterLeopard(post #11) pointed out Water cold or otherwise is definitely a crossover item.

And maybe pickles... Though I've never actually brought pickles on trail, didn't think of it until now.
