    HIKE TO HISTORY ! ~~ Saturday, June 5, 2010 ~~
"History is our destiny. The Appalachian Trail is our legacy."
APPALACHIAN TRAIL MUSEUM ~ Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA

Celebrate the Dedication of the Appalachian Trail Museum with us. This hike-in is just one of the many celibratory activities planned for this day ! Join us for a hike-in to the A.T. Museum's Dedication. Our journey to witness this history-making event begins at King's Gap Environmental Education Center on South Mountain (elev. 1,200 ft.) - at the Buck Ridge Trail. The 6 mile route to Pine Grove Furnace State Park tops off at 1,525 ft. at the 1.75 mile mark before descending to reach the gentle, rolling terrain of the 3 mile homestrech. ~~THERE IS A LIMIT OF 150 HIKERS~~ Registration will close once the limit is reached or on May 28, 2010, whichever occurs first. Proceeds will benefit the Appalachian Trail Museum ~THE FIRST MUSEUM DEDICATED TO HIKERS AND HIKING. The registration fee will include: ~A light, cold breakfast and drinks at the Check-in; ~Prefered seating for the A.T. Museum's Dedication Ceremony; ~A special edition A.T. Museum commemorative patch . Staggered start from the trailhead (Buck Ridge Trail at King's Gap) starting at 7:45 to 8:30 ~you choose based upon your pace needed to cover 6 miles.

TOP 10 REASONS WHY HIKE TO HISTORY :
Probably will not find parking closer than a mile away
Think of the calories you'll burn so you can eat 2 pieces of cake
You don't want to be the only person who doesn't stink at the dedication
Hiking to the first museum focused on hiking is way COOL (& "GREEN")
If you get lost, you'll be in good company (Don't worry, you won't get lost)
Won't have to worry about running into Governor Sanford
Log trail miles during Pennsylvania's Hiking Week
Be part of a memorable National Trails Day celebration
The spirit of Earl Shaffer will be with you
Since the old Grist Mill has lasted 200 years, can't you hike 2 or 3 hours ?

More details will be provided after your registration is received by the AT Museum Treasurer, Rich Evans at 2123 Church Road / Mountain Top, PA 18707-9030 ~~hopefully, registration forms will be available at the Museum's website SOON ~~go to www.atmuseum.org and check for it.
Otherwise, I'll be happy to forward you a registration form via an online attachment from my email : [email protected] ~~your e-mail address will be used only in connection with "Hike to History"

    CONSTRUCTION SET TO BEGIN

The renovation of the Old Grist Mill building at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Pennsylvania is set to begin with the beginning of April ! This is an exciting time for all involved with our A.T. Museum ~~that excitement is shared by many of the people who live in that local area. A new Museum board member, Joe Patterson, has been instrumental in spreading the news of the Museum among many newspapers ~~we at the museum are very lucky to have his years of experience in the newpaper field helping promote and establish our A.T. Museum . I hope to be able to relay the different articles that will be forthcoming and passed to me online by Joe, and, with Alligator's help, post them here in this Whiteblaze Forum.

    GOOD & HAPPY HOLIDAY Y'ALL !
