MUSEUM DISPLAY AT THE "VIEWS FROM THE MAINE WOODS, 2017 ATC BIENNIAL" ~ MUSEUM BENEFIT ! ~
    ~ MUSEUM HOURS ~ PARK PROGRAMS ~ APPALACHIAN GEOPARK INITIATIVE ~ & MORE !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

Here is an acknowledgement note of thanks to the A. T. Museum

for being an exhibitor at the 2017 ATC Biennial Conference at
Colby College, Waterville, Maine last weekend (8/4 - 8/6, Fri. - Sun.):
" Dear Maine 2017 ATC Conference Exhibitor:
On behalf of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club, AMC Maine Chapter,
Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and the Conference Steering Committee
we would like to thank you for being an exhibitor at the Conference.
With attendance at the conference topping 1000 folks, 50 exhibitors,
100 hikes and excursions, and nearly 100 concurrent sessions,
the Conference was a great experience.

    Thanks again for your participation,

    Holly Sheehan and Tom Mullin
    Exhibits Co-Coordinators "

    APPALACHIAN TRAIL MUSEUM EXHIBIT TABLE:
Our A. T. Museum table was set up early Friday morning, August 4th.
We managed to get an extra table through the efforts of Tom Mullin,
one of the Exhibits Co-Coordinators ~ so we had plenty of room, not only
for the 3 table-top easels holding poster photos of the Museum, but a
layout of many of the car-window decals of the Museum logo with the
website address in its lower margin, as well as many donor/membership
FORMS. Special thanks go to Jim "Early Bird" Foster for supplying us
with his wonderful, computer-driven video TV-like screen and the new
video (with a music audio) of many aspects of our Museum ~ it had
slides of the "2010 Grand Opening", the AT Hall of Fame exhibits, many
pics of The Museum through the last eight years (both inside and outside),
and various slides of past Museum activities. Special thanks go to the
ATC husband and wife team of Laurie and Richard Potteiger for picking up
all this video equipment, hauling it to Colby College, and passing it along
to us ~ MANY THANKS, Laurie and Richard.

Between Larry Luxenberg, Museum President, his wife Frieda, and myself
(Red Wolf, membership secretary), we were able to get the video loaded
and operational all day Friday during the registration period ~ the hall was
packed with hikers all that day ! Jim came early Saturday and got it
set back up for the day and with the audio going strong.

We heard many favorable comments about our A. T. Museum display.
It was set up until the Exhibits Hall was closed Sunday at 12 noon.
Here are some photos taken by either Laurie or Frieda. I hope you enjoy
them, just click on each of these,

Larry and Bill O'Brien conducted the A. T. Museum Workshop program
early Monday morning. I attended it, and passed out all the donation/
membership FORMS which I had with me ! We hope some of those return
soon to the treasurer with more financial support for our A. T. Museum ?
If you can donate some time as a volunteer at the Museum, you are
most welcome and appreciated. Your financial contributions not only
"keep the lights on", but also allows us to complete the expansion into
    the entire building !
Thank you. Your support is appreciated .

SPECIAL NOTE ~ USED-BUT-GOOD HIKER GEAR BENEFIT SALE :
    F. Y. I. ~ at breakfast Sunday, August 6th., Bill O'Brien went online
and registered the A. T. Museum for 3 TABLES at
    The
    2017 GATHERING !
We will have Museum display on one table and use the other two for our
USED-BUT-GOOD HIKER GEAR BENEFIT SALE for our A. T. Museum !
SO.................. please ~ consider contributing that old, used-but-still
GOOD hiking equipment of ALL SORTS ~ equipment, clothes, etc.,..
Just bring me your item donation(s) early when you arrive to our tables.
I will set them up as early on Friday as I am able.
The sale will end by dinner time late Saturday afternoon .
An announcement of the amount of funds raised will be made Saturday
evening. Thank you for your Museum support .

    Default A. T. Museum Updates

SNOW MOOSE PICS ! ~ USED HIKER GEAR SALE TO BENEFIT MUSEUM ( ITEMS NEEDED)
~ GATHERING LINKS ~ AUG- SEPT PARK PROGRAMS ~ NEW MUSEUM HOURS & MORE !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

First, I have a series of photos I want to share with you,
click on, A BEAUTIFUL SNOW MOOSE !

3 MUSEUM TABLES RESERVED AT THE GATHERING ! :
As August begins to wind down into September, and then,
    after only 30 days..................................
("thirty days has November, April, June, and September",
please excuse, but I just couldn't let that go bye ~ RW),
    October ! ~ and THE GATHERING !
    ~ FRIDAY, OCT. 6th. through 9th.

Much attention begins to focus on this upcoming hiker event.

We have reserved three tables for the Appalachian Trail Museum
display and its "USED-BUT-GOOD-GEAR" BENEFIT SALE ~ one
table for the Museum's display and the other two for sale items.
This benefit sale is to help raise the much needed funds to
outfit the Museum's upper levels, now that it is accessible via
    the new ramps. Professional quality exhibits are expensive;
the continued interior renovation is expensive; furniture and the
electronic equipment needed for use in operations with visitors
by the volunteer docents is expensive; just "keeping the lights on"
is expensive. Help us have a successful USED GEAR BENEFIT and raise
a substantial amount of funding through your contributions
of used-but-good hiker items and through your purchase of any
needed items you may find there.
WHEN: - FRIDAY, OCT 6 as soon as we can man the tables, we will
take your donated gear items, as well as entertain purchase offers.
    - SATURDAY, OCT 7 all day until 5 PM ~ we will announce the total
amount of ALL SALES at the evening activity.
Your support is appreciated by your Appalachian Trail Museum.
For this Hiker Gear Sale to benefit the A. T. Museum, and to raise the
substantial funds, WE NEED ANY ITEMS you may wish to contribute.
Give them to anyone at the Museum tables in the Hiker Fair EARLY so that
they will have a good amount of time to be sold.

This was a REALLY FUN EVENT when we did it the last time in 2014
at the Gathering in Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts.
Everyone came by, two tables PLUS of gear items were donated,
bid offers were made on items and taken, everyone had A BLAST and our
    A. T. Museum benefited ~ let's do it again ! PLEASE, don't forget to
come by the Museum tables and "make-an-offer" on an item you like !

    Default Appalachian Trail Museum Updates

CORRECT LABOR DAY MUSEUM HOURS ~ A REVIEW - IAT DISPLAY AT THE ATC BIENNIAL &
THE LONG DISTANCE HIKER'S RECEPTION - & MORE

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

First, here are the correct hours the A. T. Museum will be open this
coming Monday ~ Labor Day - SPECIAL HOURS: 12 NOON to 4 PM

Here is some more about the 2017 ATC BIENNIAL,
    F. Y. I. ~

INTERNATIONAL APPALACHIAN TRAIL AT 2017 ATC BIENNIAL:
The IAT had an excellent display table at the recent ATC Biennial,
Colby College, Waterville, Maine. Additionally, it led several
of the Biennial workshops in relation to the IAT and its impact !
The long-distance hiker reception, the featured event Sunday evening,
was co-sponsored by the IAT, Maine Chapter and the Appalachian Long
Distance Hikers Association (ALDHA). At this event, Dave Starzell received
"high praise for his determination and leadership skills which resulted in
the U.S. government acquiring thousands of parcels of land along the AT,
making the AT a permanent feature of the American landscape."
Don and Paul then presented Dave with a framed certificate as one
of IAT Maine's first class of Honorary Directors. ALDHA and our
    A. T. Museum were represented at this reception by many members;
I'd be afraid to list them since that list would be too short as I would
probably forget and leave some out of the listing ! ~ GOOD TURNOUT !

For the IAT recent Biennial activities, F. Y. I. ~ click on:
INTERNATIONAL APPALACHIAN TRAIL AT THE 2017 BIENNIAL

    MY OBSERVATION:
I personally really enjoyed the Hiker Reception; it was an excellent way to
end a fantastic weekend; afterward, I went to the Jazz Music & Dance
evening entertainment ~ WHAT A JAZZ BAND !
It had 5 saxophones, 5 trumpets, 5 trombones, 2 electric guitars,
a keyboard, a piano, three clarinets, and a singer !
    I lingered there until 10 PM !
And then finally went then to bed.

Monday morning we had the A. T. Museum workshop ~ Museum President,
Larry Luxenberg led it, with Bill O'Brien, Museum Secretary showing slides.
I was able to hand out ALL of the membership/contribution forms save two !
After this workshop, I left and began my 30-hour trip back to Savannah on
    two trains.

What a BLAST the 2017 Biennial was !

    HAPPY TRAILS !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

I'd like to share some photos of some of our Museum's

of them in the exhibit case of each; and then three pics around our fine
building. To get started, artifacts of the man who had the "trail" idea,

As we go into our last month of the 2017 Museum's season, it
seems only right to reflect back on this past year, as well as back to
the beginning of operations in this "Old Mill" building of ours. Much
has been accomplished in creating a first-rate museum for our beloved
Appalachian Trail through the tireless efforts of many supporters by,
not only their hard volunteer work and long hours, but through a high
degree of dedication; through the results of efforts seen everywhere
on site; through the serious and generous financial donations over the
more than 15 years (of which I know); and through the moral support
we continue to receive from all quarters ! ~ THANK YOU .

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION LUNCH ~ TOUR OF MUSEUM'S OUTSIDE (south-side) ~
~ 2018 AT HALL OF FAME BANQUET PRESS RELEASE ! & MORE !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,
    The Appalachian Trail Museum closed for the winter;
it will reopen in April 2018. Last weekend on Sunday,
November 5th., the annual Volunteer Recognition Lunch
was held at Ironmaster's Mansion (just west of the Museum) !
Each year we recognize our faithful volunteers, with special
awards for different categories of service, and everyone received
    a 2018 Honorary A. T. Museum Membership; a membership card;
an acknowledgement note of gratitude; and one of our special
    A. T. Museum car-window decals ! These volunteers make it
possible for our Appalachian Trail Museum to keep its doors open.
They deserve a big "THANK YOU" from us all.

There was quite a crowd, as usual, with plenty of good food, as
well as some excellent conversations. The lunch was enjoyed by all !
Later my shuttle driver friend, Michael Gelinas, and I rambled about
the Ironmaster's property snapping some photos; at the end
of the pics is a list of our honored Volunteers ! Here is the link
to these photos ~ click on,

We also wandered down to the Museum and took a series of
