    Default Start up package

i'm setting up my cousin for backpacking... 16 year old 150 pounds 6'1...

anyway i bought him his backpack but the other items are as follows:

    exped synmat 7
    campmor 20 degree down bag
eureka spitfire solo/north face canyonlands solo

anyone have any other suggestions aside from this. i'll get a decent deal on campmor.com...

    What - no hammock??????

Buy him a cheapo and he'll be a convert in no time! A one pound hammock is more versatile than a one pound camp chair (unless you're above treeline or in a desert).

i know i know, but the kid thinks hammocking is stupid... i even tried letting him sit in the warbonnet and when he started to say it was stupid again i banished him from comfort forever... so he's stuck on the ground...

sounds good with that. i would take him out with only that gear and build from there. afterall there is no guarantee that he will stick with it.

Since he is a teenager and not interested in comfort, how about a basic blue pad. Hard for a kid to destroy!

A little "Red Wagon" to haul his food and mountian dews.

I've got a great cooking kit coming to auction soon. I'll post some photos of it today along with some specs. The pot holds 4 cups of water, that size is good for 2 packs of ramen and 2 cups water. That should be good starters for the 6' 1" hiker

Look at the amount of food he can have in just 9.5 min.

You can be sure when he stops walking he's going to want to eat.

Makes for a nice addition to your start-up package.

I'm not sure at this point. I have to go back and review my costs to make it. I should know by Thursday and will post it. I'm also going to auction off the kit that you see in the video if that's ok with the powers to be. The auction will begin on Thursday and run thru Monday evening 8:00pm eastern time.
