Signing off for a bit.
Sorry if anyone was offended with my comments about the sweet potato/marshmallow thing. (Which really IS disgusting).
Funny......no matter what YOU might really like, someone else really hates it, and vice versa, example how can The Goat possibly hate green bean casserole with Campbell's Mushroom soup and French's Onions. To me, that IS Thanksgiving.
Anyway, hope everyone has a healthy and happy one, be careful on the road.
How about this recipe - the one I've used for 25 years:
- Boil in 1 cup of water 1/2 cup chopped onions and 1 cup chopped celery until slightly cooked.
- In large mixing bowl, toss 4 cups whole-wheat bread crumbs (sliced and chopped from a loaf, not prepackaged) with 2 apples peeled and diced, 1 cup chopped pecans, 1-2 Tbs ground sage, 1/2 Tsp cinnamon, fresh ground pepper
- After dry ingredients above are mixed, add the onions & celery along with the cooking water and blend in thoroughly
- Stuff the turkey

I'll eat the orange jello with crushed pineapple and shredded carrot and smile and fuss about how good it is.

A disgusting dish my ex motherinlaw makes which is mini onions in some kind of cats vomit sauce. No one ever ate it, yet she made loads, and still does every year. Baffling.
Oh yeah, and another thing i wouldn't want at the table....my ex motherinlaw.
:-)
Cheers
Happy What???!!@#@#@!!

Oyster stuffing, Jimmy Buffet mentions it in a song, think he claims its a must, must be a bayou thing, the thought of it makes me want to yak
I love this thread and have laughed all the way through. My mother was a terrible cook, but we always had the same Thanksgiving... turkey, dressing, lumpy mashed potatoes, sweet potato cassarole with marshmellows, green bean cassarole, canned cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie with coolwhip and those aweful rolls. My family, unfortunately, grew up with the same menu. A couple of years ago, I decided to do a "healthy" thanksgiving. We had turkey with a fruit/nut stuffing, baked yams, fresh green beans, homemade cranberry sauce, and a pumpkin mousse. My family hated it! I will never live it down. So, unhealthy or not, we'll be eating all those things you guys hate.
