If all of the pieces of the puzzle come together, I will be starting NOBO in late February to Mid March depending on the weather. I can handle the cold but if the south gets snow like this year it will be mid March.

I'll be starting mid-March too. My reason is the same as yours Wildman, the weather. That being said, I've hiked in the Smokies in April with snow on the ground. I don't imagine there will be as much snow then as there would be in early Feb. You never know though.

    I'm a 2011 thruhike hopeful as well!
I'm thinking first week of March as long as next year is NOT like this year... but that start date is all flexible, depending on lots of things. I just hope to get the money together and if so, I'll see you all there! (I'm getting really excited, and it's still almost a year away)

I was looking at March 2012, but the wife said I'd drive her nuts talking about it for another 23 months, she's suggested 2011. Means giving up a good job, but hey... isn't that what people do?

I was originally planning on leaving the end of march or early april....I'm probably gonna be leaving earlier. I'm also gonna try to find a partner to start with at least.

I to am a 2011'er. Planned on going solo, but I'll leave that decision up to God, as long as I'm there, alone or with a few. Planning on March. I think I'll wait and See exactly what the weather is like in late Feb and take it from there. Good luck to all you 2011 nobo's. Soon.

    Default 2011 Here I come.

I thought the economy was going to force me to put my hike off until 2012 but I'm back at work and working six days a week most weeks. So if I can save the loot I can do 2011 but if I have to wait until 2012 I'll be going in style. if any fellow Buckeyes are interested in planning some practice hikes let me know. Aiming for a last week of feb/first week of mar start. Good luck to all and hope to meet you on the trail.

Anybody else sobo in mid-June 2011?

I just decided a couple weeks ago that I was going to finally thru-hike it! Probably starting early March. My friend and I are fairly positive we're going to do it together, but I just want to see who else is out there in case we walk at excessively different paces.

I am so excited to see you out there in the woods!

I'll be leaving early to mid march, weather depending. I am sure that my husband wants it over with so that he won't have to keep hearing about it on a daily basis. We went to Baxter State Park last week and I couldn't make it more than an hour without bringing up the thru hike.

I tried getting my friends and family on the trail and it didn't work out so great...especially when my daughter found out about the shelter mice. I'm heading out NOBO early March.
