    r mosquitos a problem on the jmt in august???

    Depends on the snow pack that year on how bad they will be in August. August is always better then July though. However, with this years snow pack looking pretty big, August may look more like a normal July. In general, I would always plan on having Mosquitos no matter when you hike there (well, maybe not October).

    lots of snow and slow runoff in spring (like last June) means you will have them at medium elevation in August (9500-10,000).

    Warm spring and normal snow (more likely) means you may have only slight issues near lower meadows and then a few high elevation lakes with bug problems, such as Wanda Lake below Muir Pass. Generally, the later you go, the higher the problem zone until it just disappears. Last September I saw exactly one mosquito... Last July I was covered by them at Sunrise High Sierra camp that I couldn't tell the color of my pants

    Mid August 2009, mosquitos were not a problem.
