Within a couple miles north of Dennis Cove Rd there are at least a dozen beautiful campsites right along the river. Bob is great. Kinkora is great. Except when there's 20 hikers there. If you have never met Bob, stop in and say hi. He would love to meet you. But don't feel obligated to stay there. He does not need your $4. If you use any services, shower, shuttle, laundry while you're there be sure to donate but if you feel like hiking another 1/2 hour you could be lulled to sleep by gently rolling stream instead oy being kept awake by smelly snoring hikers.

IMO, Laurel Creek is a premium property. I wonder how much they're asking.

Wolf is right about Braemar Castle. Hampton is a really nice little town, with a good hostel in Braemar, laundry, resupply, multiple very good restaurants, and a couple of drinking establishments. All within a 3/4-mile walk from the hostel.

I've stayed at both Kincora and Braemar and I enjoyed both. But if Kincora were crazy slammed packed (which could happen with Laurel Creek closed), I would walk on to Braemar, another 3.7 miles up the trail when you take the flat 1-mile blue blaze straight into town.

Better yet, stay at Bob's AND Braemar.

That blue blaze comes out conveniently just 300 feet down the road from the Icehouse Saloon. Decent food, pool tables, bikers, shady women, and $6 pitchers.

I took a time out at the Icehouse, on a short section last year. Hospitable folk.
    But I missed Pond Mt.

It was a nice place when I drove or walked by. But I was figuring that place would go out sometime. It only catered to the crowd. I never saw any caretakers around it when it was open to get info. Then Doe River campground down in Hampton got most of summer camp/conference business
