Default Safe Parking At Carvers Gap?

Anyone recommend a place to park at for about 4-5 days to avoid having my car vandalized? I'm trying to avoid the parking near the trail. SO maybe any business, etc?

We stayed up in that area over Christmas and drove up to Carvers Gap on 261

I don't remember a whole lot of business's super close to Carvers Gap-at least on the NC side. There is a little service station on 261 in Glen Ayre, but, I am not sure it would be any safer there than at Carver's Gap.

We didn't go to far on the TN side as the roads were not plowed as well as the NC side, so, I don't know of anything on that side.

    when ya hiking?

An option for storing your car for a few days is Mountain Harbour BB/Hostel located on 19E. They also can shuttle you and then just walk back to your car.
    Their number is:

Leaving car at Carvers is fine, have done it plenty of times. As another poster said, park the car at Mountain Harbour, shuttle up, hike to your car and stay at the hostel. Great place to stay!! Enjoy your hike

any other places or recommendations in the area to leave a car for a week+?

They charge 5 bucks a day to park there, which, even as a NYer I find kind of ridiculous.

For hostels: Kincora, Braemar, Uncle Johnnys/Nolichucky Campground. Maybe Greasy Creek.

Leave it at Carvers, it will be fine! Just dont park at the TH at 19E. Uncle J's is too far south. Dont leave it at Watauga either. Kincora is right in the middle but has alot of people parking there in late spring summer time. Honestly, Id leave it at Carvers. Its far enough out of the way that no one will mess with it. Mainly hikers are the only ones that go up there, plus its far enough from everything else that no one will mess with it. We have left a car their multiple times and have had no worries! Good luck

If you can't afford that, how can you afford to get to the trail?

You talking about the parking where the AT crosses Wilbur Dam Rd.? Just curious what the issue is there? I have parked there multiple times with no problems.

Lots of kids party down there during the peak spring and summer months. Have heard of cars getting messed with there before.

At first it seemed like a lot for just leaving a car on a property (I remember the place on the NPT charging a dollar a day) but then I thought about it and its OK for peace of mind, especially with the reputation that area has.

    Thanks for the suggestions

Leave it at Greasy Creek friendly, $4/day. Connie will shuttle you whereever you need. Can just go straight to Roan from there.

Just for the record, I left my car at Mountain Harbour for a week and they couldn't have been nicer. Really nice and helpful woman who runs the place (let me shower in the B and B) and the car was safe and sound. I recommmend this beautiful place!

    Default Parking at Allen Gap

I'm planning a couple day hike in the area and not sure where to start. Is there any safe place to park at Allen Gap where the AT intersects with NC Hwy 208. Is the parking lot at Sams Gap safe on I-26?
