    Default AT Documentary

    Hey all,
I don't post too much on here but I made a documentary of my thru-hike in 09. Obviously I'm sort of preaching to the choir here but I was hoping that some of you could let me know how it is if you have the time. The link is http://www.youtube.com/user/Tuts999 . That's all, hope some of you think it came out ok.

Nice job. I saw this a few months back. You show a lot of concentration on your hike. The part where you build the alcohol stove and then cook ramen is good. It's like the modern-day hiker version of discovering fire. Also the section where you are packing and explaining your gear has a good sense of the excitement of the upcoming hike.

Thanks so much, that really means a lot coming from another hiking enthusiast.

I'm loading it right now, only one improvement suggestion: Playlist.

Hey thanks so much. I'm having a lot of withdrawl pains and thirst for more hiking. Perhaps next spring for the PCT... I'm really not sure right now but there's nothing I want more than to be free again on a trail. On a shelter in Tennessee I saw some grafiti someone wrote on a wall. It said, "Someday never comes". I found that so true. Most people think of doing the AT and say "Someday I'll do that." For most of them that someday never comes. It's a pipe dream. My feeling is, we make our own someday.

Have been watching the last couple of days. I'm through #26 - Massachusetts so far. I'll watch the rest tomorrow.

Thanks for filming. Really makes me want to get out there.

I just started watching, and am through the gear/food part. I thought you did a great job showcasing and explaining the gear. I also thought it was great that you went through most of the food groups. Really, really, REALLY makes me want to get out there. Just watching someone talk about gear makes me want to go down to Footsloggers, even though I'm a cheapskate and won't buy anything. Can't wait to see more! Also, you remind me of Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Looks good. I've only watched the first two segments so far, so maybe you get to this later, but what kind of camera did you use to do your recording on the trail? How did you keep it protected? Cheers.

I finished the doc last night and enjoyed it thoroughly. Congrats on your thru! I would almost go as far as to say that I gained more practical knowledge of the trail/gear than from the comments from the peanut gallery here on WB. I'm looking forward to see how your outlook on life and ideology changed throughout/after the trail. If it's already up, I couldn't find it.

I started them the day before yesterday and finished them last night. Very interesting.
What kind of camera did you use?
Congrats man. I too would be interested on what it did for you at the end.

Congrats Tuts! Thanks for the commitment to document your incredible experience. I just spent the last hour checking out some of your great footage. And the quote "someday never comes"...humbling indeed. You mentioned that the hike changed your "ideology and philosophy" and that you'd talk about that more later. Did you do that on your page? I'm interested in that aspect. Thanks again and best of luck in your "future somedays"!

Thank you all for your amazing words. It's truly humbling to hear such praise from your peers. To answer some of your questions... I used a Cannon Powershot 10 mpxl camera with no mounts. I kept it dry by carrying it in my pocket most of the time and when it rained I put it in a ziplock. I haven't made a "recap" vid. This is because my techniques are continuing to change, and with every new adventure you may see how it does. I've done a couple more trips that I posted but I'm planning on doing the Long Trail in June and will film that as well. I should explain more about my rethought philosophies then.

Outstanding job Tuts! This is better than some AT videos that I've purchased. Thanks so much for sharing.
