    Trail Name: 58starter
    Direction: North Bound from Springer
    Starting Date: Middle of march
Approach: no, will start at the forest service road hike the .9 to Springer the back to the parking lot to start from there.

I am 59 now and will be 60 when the hike begins. I need to start out hiking with someone my age or a group of you guys so my wife will feel safer for me.

I have hiked from Springer to Rock gap already this past year in sections.
Will be doing Rock Gap to NOC mid october.

Anyone want to start out with me?

Ho hum...doom & gloom...drink the coolaid and be risk averse or throw caution to the wind and do the Nike thing...

I canceled a SOBO attempt for 2010 because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find a job when I got back. Now I'm planning a NOBO 2011 for April, but am sprouting chicken wings again...now thinking SOBO 2011 would be better...

The plane has been circling the jump zone for two years now...when am I going to just jump and trust that the parachute will open? Somebody kick me in the kiester and shove me out the door. What's the worst that can happen, end up mooching off mommy and defaulting my student loans?

Speaking from the position of having two masters degrees, that's pretty darn sad, isn't it? Right now I have two jobs working 70 hours a week and am grossly overqualified for both. I sometimes wonder if I wasted my time in grad school.

    Hey Phillip

Do what the Special Forces do. Make a HALO jump. High Altitude Low Opening You will get there a lot quicker. I'll see you out there on the trail with all the other 59 or 60 somethings. It is alot better to be circling the jump zone than circling the drain.

Hey! That sounds like a trail name for me....HALO (High altitude, low opening). I always tell people, "I feel like I'm going through life in a traffic jam riding somebody's back bumper all the time". Antherwords, I run a little faster than most in everything I do. I even hike faster than most; sort of the, "I'll sleep when I'm dead, so let's go!" mentality.

HALO. I like it. That acronym sums up my personality quite well. Plus it can't hurt if it makes people think I'm talking about a Halo, so they think I'm just a really nice guy, which I am for the most part. (-: Thanks!

Default Just gotta finish the Triple Crown

    Trail Name Iceaxe
    Direction NoBo
    Estimated Start Date March 2011
    Approach Trail - yes

Hiked the PCT in 2009 and the CDT this year(2010). Hiking the AT in 2011 will be the Triple Crown in Three years... Why? Well I always liked the number 3. Also it will be nice to see fellow hikers on the trail again. Wyoming had more Pronghorns than people! I hear there are even a few shelters out there on the AT. This is going to be awesome!

    Trail Name - Gravity
    Direction - NoBo
Estimated Start Date - late March 2011

I've been dreaming of the thru hike for years since a 600 mile SoBo trek in 2005, but it seems like it's never the right time. Feels right now though. See you all in Georgia!

I know how ya feel...I've been trying to get back to the trail since I had a taste 4 years ago in Maine. Keep saying I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go and when it gets to that time, I always have an excuse why I can't. This time I'm just doing it...period!

The Approach Trail is the 8.4 miles or so that begin at Amicalola Falls State park and head up Springer to the first blaze which marks the official start of the trail. Some people do the approach, some don't.

Sounds like you may be starting a few days before me, but maybe we'll cross paths at some point!

I could be off by a few, but best I can figure we have approx. 177 2011 thru-hikers registered on this thread so far.

I've got 184 so far. I've uploaded the spreadsheet and, hopefully, it will be available for viewing soon (attroll is probably still hiking).

Good Luck and Have Fun next year!! (If anyone needs to update anything let me know.)

I'm sure you're 100% more right than I am. All I did was subtract out the "non-registry" posts from the "registry" posts (all the while watching the Wisconsin/ Michigan State game), but I didn't really account for multiple hikers, as in "my husband and I are....".
