I've always used the short gators. Keeps small stuff out. Putting them on soon; to leave in about an hour for the trail.

I have a pair of high gaiters that came in super-handy hiking through a foot of snow and slush this past december in NY.

Got some short ones I'm taking to slog through the mud with in Vermont this June.

I have both tall and short... I prefer the tall ones as they protect my lower legs from being turned into hamburger.. Plus it prevents that ever so inevidable and annoying rocks and needles from working into my boot..

i have some short ones. i use them with rain pants and goretex trail runners. keeps the rain, snow and most of the mud out of the ankles of my shoes. left them at home this past weekend and regretted it.

I Have the short and long ones as well. I prefer the short ones in summer, however the long ones offer more protection from poision oak which is plentiful here in the south!

Just bought a short pair for my early section hike in April. Figured it will be muddy w/ all the snow and rain we had.

I have a low pair of the REI ones (before they ruined them with a huge strap and discontinued the Shoeller fabric). They work great for snow and rain.

Bought the Outdoor Research Insect Shield Short Gaiters.
The material used to make them was treated with permethrin which kills ticks on contact.
Have not used them yet but soon.

Hi Gaitors (OR Crocs) in the muddy mountains of the Adirondacks. rocky mountain uncoated nylon low gators or even better the stretchy black low ones in the post before me for all other trails. Saves my expensive socks from being worn out through the heels by trail duff.
.....Someday, like many others who joined WB in the early years, I may dry up and dissapear....
