Does anyone know of any good places to climb along the trail?

Little Stony Man Mountain in Shenandoah National Park is right on the trail and has 100 foot cliffs. If you're talking about technical climbing, where are you going to get the necessary gear if you're hiking?

depends on how far "off the trail" you mean. north carolina and west virginia are littered with places to climb, some within walking distance of the trail, others within a very short drive.

Hi! I grew up in PA interested in both climbing and bping so some particular places spring to mind. Pole Steeple has some taller faces for easy top rope and trad. White Rocks is a memorably brutal mile along a forested ridge. Lots of easy to mid-level bouldering here, and some short walls for beginner toprope. Getting more difficult, you'll find the Hermitage a great spot to spend a full day or even two at. It's in Michaux and it's one of the most well established climbing spots in the entire region.

You can probably use that site to find some other great spots on the Trail, especially in WV. I don't know of any, I never really traveled much to climb. Haha typing this up has made me antsy for the old haunts, can't wait to visit back and hit the trail with old friends. Happy climbing!

Were you looking to scramble, boulder, free or toprope? there;s a few area of each along the trail in various states, but I cannot imagine carrying five10's' rope and harness the length of the trail, which makes me think you are thinking more of free or matless bouldering... (I am assuming you are thruhiking....)
