Default Trail Conditions-Springer mt ot Unicol gap

Me and some fellow adventures are hiking Springer Mt to Unicol Gap. starting some time next week. Just wanted to get a quick check of the trail conditions. Water?, Bear Activities?, any recent vandalism in car parking areas?, shuttle complaints/issues?, etc. Any special things we need to be aware of?

No problems with water and, yes, there has been bear activity. Be prepared to hang your food; shelter registers will document any bear sightings.

Bear around Blood Mtn. Water's good.
The trail is ever winding and the party moves every night.

its as if a bear has decided to inhabit blood mtn. over the past couple of weeks, he's ALWAYS up there. So say hi from me when you see him, i think he would remember me...

There have been many reports of bears from Blood Mtn to Unicoi Gap. Lots of food bags stolen by them. Plenty of water. Shuttle service good all through Ga, except Dicks Creek Gap. An unscrupulous guy in a red pickup truck harrassing and taking advantage of hikers at Dicks Creek Gap. Enjoy your hike.

call the Hiawassee Inn above the gap as you are descending as soon as you hear or see the road. The cell phone service at Dicks Creek Gap is poor or non-existant.

FYI - The GATC was informed by the Forestry Service two weeks ago that camping between Woody Gap to Neel’s Gap might be prohibited due to bear activity on the trail. I suggest checking with the FS.

We just hiked Springer to Unicoi, Monday through Thursday, and heard a bear somewhere low in a gap on our way up Blue Mountain. Helped us climb a little harder and faster.

Cool Breeze, thanks for the hostel stay on Wednesday night. It was fun hanging out with Lumpy and Mule, and learning more about many very dirty topics...and maybe sharing a few new words with them. Good times.
