So are there still campsites at Lance Creek?....or are those the ones that got "returned to nature"?

Heck, this is such a big deal that they just announced it on the news on WSB radio.
"Welcome South, Brother"
The GATC and the Kannorock Trail Crew from the ATC worked on the Lance Creek camp site area three weeks ago. They build new tent-pads and trashed the old camp sites that needed rejuvenation... Check it out.

Great news on the Lance Creek campsites....thank you GATC!!!
In the next couple of weeks I'm heading from Springer to Neels Gap with my four children (ages: 14, 12, 10, 8 ....all boys except the 10 year old). We are experienced backpackers. We are using Hiker Hostel for shuttle. Here is our current plan:
Day 1: Breakfast at Hiker Hostel and shuttle to High Shoals Road
Hike to Springer Mountain Shelter
Day 2 - Hike to Hawk Mountain Shelter
Day 3 - Hike to Cooch Gap Shelter
Day 4 - Hike to campsite at Lance Creek
Day 5 - Hike to Neels Gap
Shuttle pickup at Neels Gap
My biggest concern is water. The link to a GA water report at www.mountaincrossings.com is not working.
How is the spring at the Springer Mountain Shelter?
I figure we will carry water from High Shoals (or perhaps 46 if very hot) to the top of Springer if necessary.
Any other issues (other than the bear near Blood Mountain)?
Thanks for you comments.
Just back from the trip from High Shoals Road to Neels Gap. Josh and Leigh at the Hiker Hostel were awesome. All of my kids had a great time....no issues. The oldest son saw a bear on the approach trail. I was behind him ...I heard the bear crashing through the underbrush. The only bad luck was when the strapped popped out on my Leki pole on top of blood mountain. When I got to Neels Gap ... there was a Leki representative that offered to fix it...yeah!!! Of course he likes our family since all of my 4 children were using Leki poles as well. I picked up Winton's book....it is a fun read.
Yes, Great kids!
...and you are Welcome!
Elder...the Leki guy.
Elder...indeed thanks.....and now ....for the first time I can put a face to a whiteblaze post. Cheers!!!

I broke a mirror in my house. I'm supposed to get seven years bad luck but my lawyer thinks he can get me five.

met a guy at the range this weekend that was sighting in his bear rifle (45/70). He thanked me when I told him about the bear issue over by Blood Mountain. I'm guessing it won't be a problem next year.
Dyslexics Untie!
Don't bears really wander for miles and miles, and wouldn't the closing of this section just cause the bear to move to another well travelled/trash/food smell section? Just a though
