Hey all! Got the DVDs back from the replicator yesterday! If you want a copy of Wizards of the PCT, go to www.wizardsofthepct.com

There's a trailer there and links, plus a page for the musical artists involved. And, you know, a page for ordering the movie.

Shipped off the first orders today. It's almost as if I were a professional filmmaker or something.

a few questions from a fellow filmmaker:

What camera did you shoot your video on, and how long is the film?

The camera was a Sony DCR HC-38, which films on mini-DV tapes. I decided to use this camera for a couple of reasons. It was small & light, and more importantly, the mini-DV tapes meant that I didn't have to worry about finding a computer to transfer with, and if I dropped the thing off a cliff the max amount of footage I'd lose would be one hour. It also had a 40X optical zoom, which was nice (but would have been less nice without the tripod).

I also carried a ridiculously heavy 10 hour battery, a tripod (yes, an actual tripod), a 1 hour battery, a travel charger, a thing to clean the lens, and usually 3-4 tapes.

The movie is 98 minutes long, including the credits.

    Default Jester's Package

My copy arrived in my mailbox today.
I haven't watched it yet, but here is my review so far...

    6"x6" white cardboard envelope.
My address is hand written in black ballpoint ink.
On the top left corner is a return address label "Jester ... Roslyn, PA 19001".
On the top right corner is a USPS label dated Jul 16, '10.
There are 3 red ink hand stamps on the front, "DO NOT BEND", "FIRST CLASS", and one that is all smeared and looks like some sort of itchy bad rash (Clearly a "First Day Of Issue Postmark", Jester must know someone at the PO).
On the backside of the envelope is a personal note from the filmmaker written in black Sharpee, "Thanks! -J."
Also, more of the USPS red ink itchy bad rash smear.
The pull tab worked very well, no paper cuts or other issues, the DVD came out of the envelope easily.

As far as the video itself...
I'll review it once I watch it.
Until then it will serve as a great bookmark on page 1 of Volume 1 of "Hiking The Appalachian Trail", which I've been meaning to read for the last 20 years.
    What? Me worry??

Was there any indication as to the ability to recycle the envelope?

If people want to report on packaging, they should buy stuff from Moose Jaw.
Just ordered the DVD.. looking forward to adding it to my PCT resources.

That would be the song "Apathetic Nature" by the Golden Butter Band. They have 5 songs in Wizards of the PCT. Check them out at

For a taste of more of the music in the movie, there are two other clips on my YouTube channel:

    Thumbs up

And now, a review of the contents......
Filth, blister popping, eyebrow plucking, more dancing than in any other trail movie ever filmed, walking thru snow, walking thru fire, Saufleys, Andersons, more filth, weird night vision shots where Jester's eyes glow green, great music, a huge burrito, very brief glimpses of The Bad Wizard, California, Oregon, Washington, very very little "how to" info, an hour and a half of inspiration, lots of fun and no sad, and even more filth.
Good stuff, well worth the $20.
    Check it out.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Oh, there are also marmots.

The packaging is paperboard that is white outside and natural inside, and very smooth I might add. I checked my trash service provider and they do not accept paperboard, even of this fine quality.
Recycling facilities may exist in your area however.

Default "Wizards of the PCT" Review

Who knew that improvisational dance, rogue deer evasion and a little bit of unplugged karaoke would lead to a successful thru-hike of the PCT? Mix in some nipple chaffing, wildlife encounters and lots of blisters and you have an idea of the “Wizards of the PCT.”
Rather than a nature movie with some hikers, this is truly a hiker movie with some nature mixed in. Follow Team Bad Wizard as they make their way from Mexico to Canada with nary a casualty but some seemingly close calls. Did I mention marmots?
Experience daily trail life first hand as you follow a group of motley, yet likeable hikers. Hot desert, snow and trail towns all provide unique settings for the team. Watch a cobbler make “repairs” to her trail runners, a “Smooth Criminal” get accosted by a pack-sniffer and a Jester almost poop his pants. You’ll be on the edge of your seat the entire time.
Do not delay, order your copy of “Wizards of the PCT” today!

Compared to "day to day", you do. But I would not trade it for the world! Thru- hikers ARE mentally challenged per the establishment. We have a clarity they would never understand.

The deleted scenes and cursing video, was wonderful. When does it go on sale? BTW for those interested the next video coming out by Billville members will be titled "The AT, the way you've always dreamed it 'could' be"
