Section Hiking from Springer to NC
Where is the best place to get picked up in NC after reaching the NC/GA state line. Should I backtrack to Hiawassee or get picked up in somewhere NC.

Keep on walking to Deep Gap and get picked up there...or reach Deep Gap and take the Kimsey Creek trail up to the Standing Indian Campground and get picked up there. Have a great hike. cheers.

For the shuttle - cut thru Kimsey Creek Trail to Standing Indian Campground

Another vote for Kimsey Creek Trail down to Standing Indian Campground, which is a much easier pick-up for the shuttler. I hiked down on late on a sunny afternoon in April (2004), with the sun streaming through the trees behind me. Very nice 4-mile walk from the AT to the campground.

Or just keep walking about another full day to Winding Stair gap near Franklin, NC. That'd probably be my suggestion.
