    Default Grayson Highlands

I'm hoping to do a weekend trip in Grayson Highlands State Park with my family in a couple weeks, and was hoping someone on here might have some ideas about how bad the weather is likely to there be in mid-October.

Should I be thinking 4 season gear and winter clothes all around?

    LW...he's from Florida.

Funny story...Sept '09 was out sitting on the front porch of a B&B in Damascus. I was in shorts and t-shirt, and was comfortable. A young couple from Florida comes out to sit...long pants, hoodies, etc...and were freezing to death. They went in after about 10 minutes, they "couldn't stand the cold".

Well the forcast will give you computer generated predictions...

    Lone Wolf is acutually there...

And having already checked the average is low in the 30s and high in the 50s. Record high in the 80s and record low in the teens for mid-October.

Best source I've found for weather, these guys call weather the shuttle goes up or not, many news services in the US use them for reference.

Mid October will be perfect weather at Grayson, I'll be there also, and could be warm (70-80's) or more seasonable, in the 50-60's during the day. Might be in the 30's at night, and hopefully dry.

    Default Grayson Highlands water situation

My son and I will also be there in the next couple of weeks. Two questions:

    1. water availability. I know Va. has been quite dry.

    2. need shuttle from Damascus up to 603. recommendations for a shuttle.

    Thanks in advance.

I spent a really nice Halloween by myself up there last year and it was fairly warm during the day. Of course I wouldn't expect that and as the weather is pretty unpredictable I'd be prepared for 30's or even colder if you plan on camping up near Thomas Knob. Have fun!
