Unhappy There's no such thing as Matthewski

I have come to a realization ... he is just a figment of my imagination, invented in 2008 after my unsuccessful SOBO hike. In my depresssion, I created a fun loving, humorous character to make myself happy. I even imagined that he would be at this years gathering. But alas, after spending four days wandering around the Folklife center, I realize that he does not exist. I walked out to the big tent and found Mala and Bag O Tricks, but no Matty. I even thought I saw his tipi with some colored chalk to draw his pretty pictures. But no Matty. No bacon. No pancakes. No Matty! Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, since I think others must share my vivid imagination. No Matty

Chemicals are necessary. He doesn't exist without them.
Some knew me as Piper, others as just Diane.
I hiked the PCT: Mexico to Mt. Shasta, 2008. Santa Barbara to Canada, 2009.

Was that a figment or a fragment of your imagination? I sometimes think I see him too. Or was it a her. Sometimes, Im not quite sure. Then again... maybe I dont exist either. Maybe Im a fragment of my own imagination too.

could you invent a matty out of hole cheesecloth? sure. would the matty you invent cook delicious stakes on the trail? maybe. would that matty rite in a babbling brook of consciousness that passes thru no dam, screen, filter, or digestive tract? probably not.

I have known for some time now that Matty is not real. All you need to do is talk to him for any amount of time to realize no real person can think like that. The real interesting part is a couple years ago I figured out that not only is Matty not real, but in fact none of us are. We are all figments of Jester's imagination.

... except me. That may be true for most of you, but I know for a fact that I pre-dated Jester.

So, I was discussing a Halloween-themed lesson for 4th graders and my Korean Co-teacher suggested we teach them "Re: Your Brains" or whatever that song is called.

I was thinking about it and I believe that my ability to understand and hang with matty is founded in spending about 15 years of my life listening to Dan Bern recordings.

So the Matthewski I met (or thought I met) at Miss Janet's Thanksgiving dinner was possibly only a hologram?

Wow not real? I'm crushed, I thought he was holed up in small room in a hotel with a tiny laptop and a wifi coffee house across the street.....
Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Difficult to say. I mean, according to the scuttlebutt, it's possible that you're not real either.

I think, however, that everyone should ignore the rumors that all of you are figments of my imagination. First of all, if that were true, you'd all be better looking.

Second, previous rumors having to do with the belief that I am a turtle have been impossible to prove or disprove. Frankly, none of it is worth wasting your time over. In other words, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
