    Default New England carpool

Is there anyone who would like to carpool from New England?

I live near Boston so anyone coming from there, NH or ME would work and I also have family near I-84 and I-91 in CT so could meet someone in that area or coming down from western MA or VT.

My Ford Taurus wagon can hold four very comfortably.

If you don't get any takers in New England, perhaps you'd consider swinging by my place and sharing a ride from there...although I realize that it's not the most direct route for you.

Made my bunk reservations last week and signed up to bring some vittles on the spreadsheet today. Looking forward to it!

    Hello friends,

Friday night's dinner will be pasta with the fixins. Bring a dessert if you'd like or some garlic bread.

Saturday we will be having our usual soup and chili benefit. We have some great offerings.

    Saturday nite is the RuckFeast.

We have several things lined up, one being an event hosted by Laces on the ATC Boundary. Sally Naser did one a few years back and it was real nice. This will take place directly after the soup benefit on Saturday.

We will be spotlighting "The Wizards of the PCT" dvd on Saturday night and Skeeter is bringing a collection of Lion King and other videos.

It's going to be a warm, laid-back weekend. All are welcome.

    Thanks!

I was looking at that Google spreadsheet linked at the Ruck website...and a hike to Pole Steeple would take a while.

    Just sayin'...

Yup. But I won't make that one.

This might make a few people happy- I won't be at the Ruck this weekend unless my knee makes a miraculous recovery.

    Y'all have fun.

The Google spreadsheet is a pain in the butt. It won't allow me to edit half the time. It's never given us a problem before.

Why don't you just call me Camo

Isn't it funny, without inserting a comma before Camo, the sentence reads entirely different.

So what I really wanted to say is this:

"Why don't you just call me, Camo"

in other words....just call me on the phone ?

    HA HA

    Punctuation is for puncs.

OK, not really, but it's too late (or early, depending on your POV) so I'll call you when some hours have passed...or, you could email me an itemized list of what you'd like me to bring. You know I'm good for it...

Looks like a great venue, and a good time had. Sorry I couldn't make it. How it go, were the facilities big enough?

    Default 2011 Ruck Recap...

Stopped in Harpers Ferry Thursday along the way, and it was a winter wonderland. So was Bears Den area.

    Beautiful !

It was a small turnout, a total of 50. It was great. It was real warm, good food, and everyone just seemed to fit in well.

Friday night we viewed Walking with Freedom, and the Wonderland Trail videos.

Saturday morning, Wingheart and StarLyte cooked bacon, turkey bacon and blueberry pancakes for everyone.

Saturday we had our usual soup benefit. 5 different soups.

Pockets AT08 did the tuckerizing. The Thru hiker bull session started off with Orbit (AT10)...and she did well. Others jumped in, quite comfortably.

Laces (Allison Sheiderer) performed an AT Boundary awareness program. She was going to hike with a group, but with the snow 2' deep, it wasn't possible. She did a great job, and everyone loved it. Pics.

John Hedrick, President of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club was there to say a few kind words.

Saturday night we viewed "Wizards of the PCT" and several personal hike videos that were outstanding.

We had 2 hikers that hiked in to the Ruck. Red carpet treatment, of course.

We had a few hikers that braved the cold and deepness of the snow with the assistance of crampons. It was difficult, but hard to resist the beauty of it all and being outside.

    Dinner buffet:
    Baked ham
Turkey Divan Pot Pie (made by Marie, caretaker)
    roasted chickens
chicken breast casserole drizzled with sauce, pearl onions & mushrooms
Curried roasted potatoes & lentils with brown sugar glaze'
    Spaghetti & Meatballs
    Vegetarian lasagna
Green beans with garlic and butter
    macaroni & cheese
an abundance of vegetarian salads hot and cold
A huge salad brought by Laurie Pottieger--chicken with pecans & tossed greens and a light dressing
    breads, rolls
danish, cakes, cheesecakes, homemade cinnamon rolls and cookies for dessert

Dinner accompanied by a roaring fireplace.

Most everyone left Sunday midday, some stayed over.

We'll discuss where we're going to be at next year very soon, stay posted.

We had enough room for everyone - the rooms are very large-and the main common room for presentations as well.

I counted 5 bunkrooms. The main entrance room is enormous. Dining room was sufficient for our needs. The kitchen as well with 2 stoves, 3 sinks and enough pots, pans, utensils and everything else we could ever need.

There is a huge campground, campfire, plenty of wood.

I was amazed at how well it fit our needs and we are considering Bears Den Hostel as our new home. We were welcomed by all-it felt like home.

We'll see how everything works out - and we'll announce our new location very soon.

I wish you could have been there Sly-you would have really enjoyed it.
