I wear Omni-wool 80% poly & 20% wool, they've been great for me. I put off a lot of heat. I am normally in temps that never fall below 10 degrees.

I need to get something like that, hiking in rainpants is just too cumbersome -- they are too restrictive.

Yes - This is your base layer during colder weather. There are several options out there, try online stores like REI or Backcountry. These site will give you an idea what is out there, then shop around to find the best price.

I have Terramar Thermawool tops and bottoms. The ones in your link would make me look like an overweight negative of Wonder Woman .

I only wear something like that if I'm riding my bike. You'll get lot of strange looks if you show up at a shelter with those on.

i have a pair of mtn hardwear transition tights with windstopper panels. i think they're called super power transition tights or something. they're great. a bit on the heavy side for hiking so i use them for winter running...they're perfect for that. probably won't use them on my next long hike though.

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.
