Default Lighter Weight Base Layer Options?

I used Patagonia Cap 1 and 3 (tops and bottoms) on my last thru hike and was pleased. But now I'm searching lighter weight (as in ounces) options.

    What's worked for you?

Not sure if there's anything on the market lighter than the Cap 1 - if there is I'm sure someone will post.

For what it's worth I really like my Ivanhoe boiled wool lightweight thermals (found'em at STP)

I found the North Face Velocity t-shirt to be extremly light 3.8 oz in a XL. Before that the champion C9 running shirt was soft and light too.

I like silk against my skin, and use a Wintersilk turtleneck(men's tall sizing)long sleeve top along with silk briefs, overwhich I put my Icebreaker merino tops and bottoms.

The REI Polartec Dry (light) zip top weighs 5.6 oz., and bottoms (light) at 4.9 oz. Thats for a Mens medium. I do not know what the ladies weigh, but certainly less. There are 3 categories, Light, Medium, and Heavy.

I don't know how much these weigh, but I bet they're light.

The only material I really like touching my torso is merino wool, regardless of the temperature.

Though silk with merino wool over it sounds pretty good - I've never tried it.
