I stopped by Sam Moore Shelter for lunch on a cool, windy day in October 2001, on my way to Bears Den Hostel for the night (just before Snickers Gap). The shelter was pretty clean, but not of the same calibre as the superb Denton, Rod Hollow or David Lesser shelters in this section. There was limited direct sunlight available to dry my clothes, although it was late October so it might be better in the summer.

The difficulty of The Rollercoaster, a 17-mile relocation that wanders up and over numerous ridges, was overblown in my opinion.
