Website End to End Guide?

Hi All,

I was wondering if the 2009 the End to End Guide posted at http://www.longtrailhiking.info/end2end.html is reasonably up to date? Anyone hike the LT in 2010 using the online guide?


I'd like to start planning an end to end hike but cannot find the guide available at Amazon, the GMC website, REI, Barnes and Noble, online in general...etc...I'm hoping a 2011 version is coming out this spring/summer but there is no announcement that I can find online. Anyone know anything related to the future publication of the guide?

I forget but I think the book you want for your hike is the Long Trail Guide , not the End to Enders which is more for planning.

I hiked southbound in 2010. I don't recall anything being out of date in the online E2E guide on that site (I carried a 2007 guide with update from the web site scribbled in). I tried to update them on at least one minor thing - like the fact that the Post Office in Jonesville was selling cokes out of their refrigerator for 25 cents - but the web site wouldn't add my comment.

I see no indication that the GMC will have a new E2E guide in print this year, but it wouldn't hurt to ask them.

Oh I forgot - the Long Trail Tavern in Johnson was closed, I assume it still is.

The E2E guide is the one most worth carrying - that and the Long Trail map. If you are taking it slow and really want to read about the trail as you hike it or if you are planning short section hikes, the Long Trail Guide would useful. I carried it on my first LT hike and hardly ever used it.

I used the 2009 e2e guide last August and it was fine. All you need for an e2e hike is the e2e guide and the LT map. I purchased the Long Trail Guide also, but it got left at home.

Yeah, this. I used the E2E and maps. A couple of people I met had the Trail guide and while I enjoyed flipping through it, there really isn't any need to carry it. The E2E has maps of nearby towns with places of interest to resupplying hikers listed. Helpful.

Does anyone know if the E2E guide is still in print? I've been unable to find any online shops which currently have it in stock.

I also have been unable to find the e2e guide online, including through the GMC website. However, I looked for it at a Vermont Retailer and their response was that they would have more in stock "soon." (Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington) I am unsure as to the update/publication status of the guide.

I emailed someone in the GMC about whether there will be a new one coming out, I'll post if I hear back.

There will be a 2011 edition of the E2E out shortly. There will be several more town maps and all information will be updated. Most of the information in the 2009 edition is reasonably correct, but businesses turn over fairly quickly and there are some additions and deletions this year.

We plan on going to print about the first of March, and the E2E should be available within a few weeks after that.

I did hear back today that the current status is they hope to have it printed and available on Kindle by April 1st.

I hiked the LT End to ENd in '10 and did fine with the end to end guide purchased from the GMC - the bigger book is nice for flora and fauna stuff but you don't need it.
