Hey Mountain Squid. I just got done talking with Rockhound. He says he met you while hiking in Shady Valley a few years ago. Anyways, he started on the approach trail on Feb 13th and got through the Smokies yesterday.

Rockhound has a good memory. I had to check my notes and I did meet Rockhound in 2009 near Shady Valley.

Did he happen to mention the condition of the Smokies? Was there any snow? I'm sure there are more than a few that would be interested to know what to expect thru the Smokies . . .

(If Rockhound wants to be added to the spreadsheet I need to know what his WhiteBlaze username is.)

He's says he no longer has a name under whiteblaze. He explained why but I don't think I should go into that. If he can't be on the whiteblaze registry does this mean he will not be able to receive a patch?

And the Smokies still have a lot of sections of packed snow and ice from before Clingmans dome to after tricorner knob shelter but he says it is not nearly as bad as years past in Feb.

Hi Mtn Squid! I'll be moving out on 3-17 instead of 3-20. Can't wait any longer!

And more weather warnings. Frozen fog settled on Fort Mountain just west of Springer. A very pretty layer of ice on the summit.
