Default Section Hike - Joe Brown Highway to Mudd Gap

I am doing another section of the BMT this weekend going from Joe Brown Highway (Unicoi Gap) to Mudd Gap and wanted to see if there was any additional information I would need that isn't in the guide.

Is this section maintained and marked pretty well?

How safe is the parking at Mudd Gap?

Should I be worried about the stream crossings after all of this rain? It looks like there are several including a couple on Brookshire Creek, one of Bald River, and a few on Mangan Branch. Are any of these dangerous or are they mostly rock hops?

    Thanks for your help

Mocs123...I live down in the valley here in Murphy, NC. The creeks and branches are dangerously high w/all the rain we had. May be down some this weekend.

Sgt. Rock has a lot of info over on HikingHQ.
I'm not really a hiker, I just play one on White Blaze.

heading out in the morning, I know they did plow the skyway on the TN side so I should be able to get to Mudd Gap. Hopefully the creek crossings wont be too bad.

Creeks and branches have quieted down here in the valleys. Hope you have a great, safe hike.

Had a great trip, no problem with the crossings and the trail was in great shape! Does anyone know the back story of the two story stone house near Tate Gap? It looked oddly out of place on the side of the mountain.

Somebody posted a trip report here in the past and mentioned a little history about these abandoned dwellings...can't remember who.
