A handful of fig newtons as I pack up, then oats, nuts, and raisins after an hour or two of hiking. Nothing else really works for me on a hike.

On my last hike I dumped a bunch of stuff into a bin and mixed it up, mostly oatmeal, plus skim milk powder, some almonds, sunflower seeds, a pound of dates, and whatever else I might have had around, including some blueberries I had dehydrated. The dates were particularly fun to pick out, all covered in oatmeal and skim milk powder dust, and I would eat those as I was brewing my morning tea and oatmeal. I would drop my other containers into the bin as I used it up, such as my plastic spice jar with my soup mix in it, and my plastic spice jar with tea in it, and in each of those smaller containers like my spices.

600 calorie iced honey bun. One of these will get you 8-10 miles up the trail in a hurry before the crash and burn.

Pop Tarts and cigarettes is a pretty popular AT thru-hiker breakfast. I think both are toxic, though. I'm a big fan of cold muesli, maybe with a spoonful of peanut butter to emulsify it.

Take Lima Beans from a can and put them in a baggie. Add lawry's seasoning salt, Chop up some pepperoni and add in, then spinnkle in bread crumbs. Take that cold or add alittle water to the pot and some more seasoning salt and heat. Tastes good and lasts in the belly past 15 clicks.

On every hike, I bring bulgur wheat for at least one dinner meal.

Do you mix them together or eat them separately?

I ate variety flavored oatmeal for a month straight on the JMT and got sick of it. Need something different for longer hauls.
