Default 2011 MEGAs - Watch Katahdin's snow melt

The Park opens for overnight camping one month from today - but the AT won't be open for another two weeks or so after that.

Thanks, TJ! Very helpful, given excessive snowfall this year and a desire to be up there late June. Mountain will be fine, but it's the runoff I worry about.

Hello, I'm due to climb Katahdin on June 3rd, and start the trail the next day.

How likely is it that the trail will be open around that time? has there been occasions in the past where the opening date had to be delayed?

No worries, Katahdin's runoff is only a concern north of Abol Bridge.

There's a very good chance the Hunt Trail (The AT) will be open. The MATC's work trip will be over, the Rangers will have checked it by then, but the key is snow cover on the tableland.
The opening date for camping has been delayed by a week only once in recent years, but there isn't a set date for opening any of the trails.
