    Default food drop in GA

i am going to be hiking from springer mountain to standing indian shelter (i hope) from april 23rd to april 30th and i was wondering if i could leave some food at unicoi gap? is there a place near there that will hold it? or is there a better place to drop my food.. my dad is hiking with me from springer to suches and i will be getting food at suches.. so i need some where in between suches and standing indian shelter to drop my food..

    thanks

no place really near unicoi gap. you can go south on 75 to Helen or north on 75 to hiawassee. both are a ways away. you can mail a drop to mountain crossings at neel gap, which is about 30 miles from springer and still a ways away from standing indian. there was the blue berry patch on hwy 76 north of dicks creek gap, i'm not sure it's still there, but if it is, it is 67 miles from springer.

You might be able to drop it at Hiawassee Inn and have them bring it to you on their regular shuttle runs to Unicoi if they are still running in late April.

You should offer to pay them for the service but I'm sure it would be reasonable.

Why drive to Woody Gap, presumably in a car, then ask about food drops 31 miles North of that point, then ask for a shuttle 20 miles South of that point if you are planning to hike to Standing Indian shelter?

Oh. Never mind. I see your Dad is hiking to Woody with you. Call the Hikerhostel for a shuttle from there.

Hitch into Hiawassee from Unicoi or Dick's Creek Gap. You should be able to leave your drop at the Hiawassee Inn, or just buy what you need at the supermarket. And grab a nice big meal in town while you are at it.

my dad only has two days to hike, and we just wanna relax and do about ten miles the first 2 days (ill probably do like 15 or so the second day) so woody gap is the best place for him to stop. and again thanks for the help guys
