    Default Interesting Tick Removal Theory

I found this on a pest control website. I say the next person who gets a tick should try it out and report back:

"I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a
tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it's sometimes
difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head
full of dark hair, etc. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the
soap-soaked cotton ball and let it stay on the repulsive insect for a few
seconds (15-20), after which the tick will come out on it's own and be
stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.
This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was
frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.
Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way."
I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to
her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and
immediately called me back to say, "It worked!"

I have also heard of this method using a variety of products to make the tick back out. It works because it smothers the tick and it cannot breathe. But CAUTION: the tick regurgitates into the victim before it releases and any diseases that it may contain are passed on into the person bitten. There is a tick remover that is recommended by health care officials that will remove even the tiniest ticks. Please DO NOT Spread an old wives tale that you heard from someone on here or the internet. I am a certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor by the way.

You volunteer to try out the next vaccine, medical test, etc. Don;t encourage others to. Check it out on snopes.com first.

I've used this on the dogs many times, and it works very well. With two dogs, I haven't had the need to pull one off of any of my human family members yet, but it should be even easier in an area without fur.

I got a tick key from REI that did absolutely nothing to get a tick off me. I finally had to resort to tweezers.

Tweezers is the best method, but I have used my fingers, covered of course.
This is not you thread, btw, it is public. I just don't like it when people give out bad medical advice. It is leaving yourself to open to ridicule and in some states against the law.

Here is a tick removal tool that I have used 100's of times on myself, family and dogs. ://www.otom.com/how-to-remove-a-tick I have given them as gifts. Do not use tweezers or coat them with anything according to my vet and a couple of doctors. Tweezers squeeze the guts in and it is difficult to get the head out. Coating them makes them puke!. With this tool they come out intact, still alive.

You asked others to try it, possibly endangering them.

    BIG difference.

To each their own, but for adult deer and dog ticks I just reach down with two fingers, slide a fingernail under the tick (gently) and give a quick steady pull.

Between the cats, dogs, horses and myself I pull well over a hundred ticks each year, with practice it gets quite easy to do.

Sometimes I even wash my hands afterwards

Well, it is my opinion, that someone asking others to perform such an act is irresponsible.

I AM allowed that opinion, right?

Now I am free to wonder why all the tight ended, no sense of humor people find my threads.

Whats the harm in trying her way? So if it doesn't work do it another way nothing lost but time, soap, and a cotton ball. If it has lyme you may have already gotten it so 30 seconds of experimentation isn't going to kill you.
