Thread: New Park Fee

  1. #1

    Default New Park Fee

I was planning a hike along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I understand you have to camp so many feet off the BRP so I thought I'd camp on the MTS trail but when the ranger told me I need to get a permit and they are only for THRU hikers I figured screw this now we need permits in Pisgah Forest?

Either the "ranger" or someone else is misinformed. I don't know of any trail areas closed or requireing permits for camping. Other than the usual group camp areas or fee camping developed areas. They have posted or removed some forest roadside camping as it gets over used. And all of Bent Creek Experimental Forest is now closed (for several years) to camping. You do have to be careful to be off of Parkway right of way and this can sometimes be confusing even to law enforcement where BRP ends and Pisgah Forest begins.
The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.
You never know which one is talking.
